Masood Azhar

Masood Azhar is the founder and leader of the UN-designated terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed. Masood Azhar had a hand in the terrorist attack on 14 February  2019. India had listed Masood Azhar as one of its most wanted terrorists due to his history of militant activities. India has been continuously trying to place Azhar on the UN Security Council’s counter-terrorism sanctions list, a move vetoed by China.

Biography/Wiki

Masood Azhar was born on  10 July  1968, at Bahawalpur in Pakistan, his father’s name is Allah Bakhsh Shabbir, who was a headmaster in a government school and his mother’s name is Ruqua Bibi. His family also started a dairy and poultry farm. Azhar studied at Jamia Uloom Ul Islamia Banurie Town in Karachi, where he joined Harkat-ul-Ansar. After being wounded in the Soviet-Afghan war, Azhar was elected as head of the Department of Motivation and became an editor for Urdu-language Said Mujahideen and Arabic-language Savte Kashmir. There he started motivating the innocent youth of Pakistan & Afghanistan against India. His ultimate aim was to bring back Kashmir to Pakistan. In the year 2000, he came to India with a fake passport made his first Bomb blast and thus started his terrorist activities in India.

Career

In the year 1994, Azhar came to India for the first time in the battle of Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami and Harkat-ul-Mujahideen Harkat-ul-Ansar, where he was arrested in February. In the year 1995, the companions of Masood Azhar kidnapped six foreign tourists in Jammu and Kashmir. The hijackers had demanded the release of Masood Azhar while describing himself as al-Faran, but one of the hostages managed to escape, after which the kidnappers shot five of the other people.

Four years after that, in December 1999, Indian Airlines Flight 814 (IC814), which moved to New Delhi from Kathmandu, was hijacked there was 178 passengers in this plane, which had been captured by 5 armed terrorists. The plane was taken to Kandahar Airport in Afghanistan via Amritsar, Lahore, and Dubai. 178 Passengers were kept in captivity for about Seven days.

In return for the release of them, the release of three dreaded terrorists was sought, after which Maulana Masood Azhar, Mushtaq Ahmed Zarar and Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh were released. When Masood Azhar was handed over to the abductors, he fled to Pakistan. After which Pakistan had arrested him, but due to getting any evidence against him, Pakistan released Masood Azhar.

Shortly after his release, Azhar made a public address to an estimated 10,000 people in Karachi. He proclaimed, “I have come here because this is my duty to tell you that Muslims should not rest in peace until we have destroyed India,” vowing to liberate the Kashmir region from Indian rule.

Masood Azhar became dangerous after being released from India. He created a terrorist organization, Jaish-e-Mohammad, in 2000 to conduct terrorist activities in India. It included several terrorist organizations such as Harkat-ul-Mujahideen and Harkat-ul-Ansar.

14 February  2019, 42 soldiers of the country were martyred in the Pulwama attack, in this attack, 350 kg of IED was used on the convoy of CRPF. The responsibility of this attack was taken by the terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Sanctions

China is facing any kind of stance every time the efforts of the militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad, Maulana Masood Azhar, to be included in the list of international terrorists of the United Nations. China says there is no concrete evidence against Masood Azhar. American experts say that China’s efforts are causing serious harm to the relations between the two countries. China had blocked the attempts of US, France, and Britain to put Azhar in the list of global terrorists in the United Nations.
