Shafiq started his career as an assistant director and writer. Later he stepped into the acting field. He acted on the screenplay of the superhit film ‘Pratigya’ (1975) directed by Dalal Guha. Dharmendra, Hema Malini, and Ajith were in the lead role in this film. In 1979, Dalal Guha again directed the pair of Dharmendra and Hema in the film ‘Dil Ka Heera’. Shafiq was also the main writer among those who wrote this film. In 1990, Shafiq wrote the script of Govinda, Dilip Kumar and Madhuri Dixit starred film ‘Izzatdar’ (1990). He contributed to writing the dialogue of ‘Pyaar Hua Chori Chori’ (1991). He was one of the four writers who wrote the screenplay of the 2003 film Baghban.

Shafiq Ansari passed away on Sunday in Mumbai. As per reports, he had been suffering from stomach cancer for many years and was also receiving treatment for the same. Unfortunately so, this is the third tragic death caused by cancer in the film and TV industry in the last 12 days. Irrfan Khan, a brilliant actor, breathed his last on April 29 due to colon infection after a two-year-long battle with cancer. Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor died the following day on April 30 after battling cancer for almost two-and-half years. Only close relatives of Shafiq have been given permission to attend his last rites, as per reports.
